I. Theory & Classroom Instruction
- Students often start with classroom instruction covering topics like hygiene, safety, state laws and regulations, and basic cosmetology principles.
II. Hair Care
- This section covers hair cutting, styling, coloring, chemical treatments, and various hair textures and types.
III. Skin Care and Esthetics
- Students learn about skincare, facials, makeup application, and techniques for improving skin health.
IV. Nail Care
- Nail technology, including manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, and nail art, is typically included.
V. Cosmetology Chemistry
- Understanding the chemistry of products used in cosmetology, including hair dyes, perms, and skin treatments.
VI. Anatomy and Physiology
- Basic knowledge of human anatomy & physiology as it relates to cosmetology,
including the structure and function of the skin, hair, and nails.
VII. Salon Management
- Business and management aspects of running a salon, including customer service, marketing, and ethics.
VIII. State Laws and Regulations
- Familiarity with the rules and regulations governing cosmetology in Washington, including licensing requirements.
IX. Practical Training
- Hands-on training is a significant part of the curriculum, where students practice their skills under the supervision of licensed instructors.
X. Sanitation and Safety
- Proper hygiene and sanitation practices are crucial in the cosmetology field to ensure the safety of clients and practitioners.
XI. Continuing Education
- Cosmetologists are often required to complete ongoing education to stay up-to-date with industry trends and safety standards.
